It started as just an idea. As a way to shoot for myself, that didn’t revolve around what I made for dinner. Or new furniture we bought. Or worse, an unwilling subject.
And then it turned into a conversation. A quick email sent to a new friend, who also happened to be an amazing wedding planner.
After a few weeks of back and forth, terrible weather, a case of pneumonia, and borrowing two amazing wedding gowns, it became reality.
On an early morning in April, I made my way down to Waco, Texas, to shoot a collaborative project with Lauren Kelly Events.
We took the idea of a Southern wedding and deconstructed it. The scene was set by pulling fantastic elements such as old typewriters, iron bedframes, wooden trunks, and spools (that are typically found in Southern antique shops) into a natural atmosphere. We wanted to rethink the vintage trend that has been working its way through the industry and modernize it into something more appealing to the bride who craves hot pink lipstick with her pin curls. Our vision was to make the pops of color found in nature enough decoration to ensure a simply Southern wedding day without too much fuss.
Here are a few of my favorites…
We started our shoot at Laverty’s Antiques in Waco, where they had an amazing variety of goodies, including hanging chairs and headboards.
This is one of my very favorites from the shoot.
Then we took it outside to the side of the road. Literally. Lauren knew of a little spot that was concealed by hedges and trees. And since it was still April, the Texas heat wasn’t too brutal.
We picked up jewelry for the shoot that morning in Downtown Waco. We scored all the accessories for less than $10. Gotta love thrift stores!
Lauren brought a brown sofa from her studio and scored the amazing vintage trunk for $20!
Our model, Taylor, is also a photographer out in Rockwall, Texas, and she totally worked it!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this shoot amazing and to Lara, Emily, and Katharine at Southern Weddings Magazine blog for picking it up! Be sure to stop by the Southern Weddings Blog to see the complete feature!
