Fall DFW Shootout 2011: Back to School

This has certainly been a labor of love. Being new to the area (now two years ago!) I wanted to create a space for photographers of all levels to get together and learn from each other.

After seeing how one was put together, I asked Dallas wedding planner and friend, Elizabeth of After Yes, if she’d partner with me to host a shootout in Dallas. With our own spin on the concept.

We hosted our first shootout last October, and this one marks our third event. And I’m so proud of how we have grown!

This time around we chose a back to school theme, and thanks to Pinterest, Elizabeth, Shelby, and I brainstormed ideas. We shot at the awesome Hickory Street Annex in Dallas and rented a school bus. YES a school bus! We showcased the talents of Sugar Bee Sweets, Kate Foley Designs, Rent My Dust Vintage Rentals, Something You Makeup Artistry, Art by Ellie, Palm Papers, and Paloma’s Nest.

I absolutely loved this vintage Schwinn bicycle from Rent My Dust!

And here’s just a sneak peek at what’s still to come!

HUGE thanks to all our sponsors! Be sure to check them out, I love working with them, and know that they would be wonderful to work with on your wedding day or special event!

Inspiration Shoot: Backyard Glam

Yay! I can finally share images from this shoot. It was featured last week on Every Last Detail.

A few months ago, I saw that Lauren, editor of Every Last Detail, was looking for submissions for her Style Dictionary. It’s a great resource for brides to see certain styles, so that when they are working with their teams of vendors, they can accurately articulate the type of feeling and vibe they want for their wedding day. Well, I dreamed up the idea of juxtaposing a backyard wedding with some glam. I enlisted the help of Ebony Peoples, whose aesthetic is definitely glam, along with a wonderful team of vendors to bring this concept together. We came up with a perfect balance of glam, while still maintaining a casual ambiance.

After photographing this styled shoot, I think that I can no longer scheduled outdoor photo shoots in the summer. This is from the middle of July, and even around 6pm, it was still super hot, sweaty, and all around miserable. However, in spite of the sweltering heat, we had a great shoot! Many thanks to the talents of Ebony Peoples Events & Design, Doodle Dog Creative, Bows & Arrows, Sugar Bee Sweets, and our awesome models and real-life couple, Adrienne & Brandon.

The shoot was photographed at Centennial Park in Irving, which is a delightful location for an engagement session, bridal session, or a beloved session.

Thanks again to all the vendors who participated in this shoot!

Inspiration Shoot: Vintage Travel with a dash of France

It always just starts with an idea. And then it grows. A team is assembled. The idea is executed.

I met Chelsea of Southern Fried Paper at a wedding networking event a several months ago. In fact, we kind of met at the end of the evening, the music was loud, I was exhausted, and we had to yell into each others ears to hear each other. Great first impression, right? Well, shortly thereafter, I met up with her and browsed her invitation portfolio. And the idea came. I pitched it to Chelsea and about three seconds later we found ourselves in planning mode. And the travel shoot was born.

We also recruited the fabulous talents of Kate of Kate Foley Designs, Heidi of Sugar Bee Sweets, Kay Castro an amazing makeup artist, and Vivien & Jon Jordan, our adorable, real-life married couple/models.

On the day of the shoot, thunderstorms were looming (in fact, we could see them across the lake, coming towards us), tornado watches in effect, and oh yeah, it HAILED. Marble-sized chunks of hail. And it rained on our shoot. TWICE.

The inspiration shoot was featured on Style Me Pretty Texas earlier this week, and I’m so pleased with how everything came together.

Announcing: Sugar & Ruffles

Two weeks ago, Heidi of Sugar Bee Sweets hosted an open house at the Shoppes at Brownstone Village in Brownstone Too, soon to be home of Sugar & Ruffles – a wedding resource studio and also the future home of Sugar Bee Sweets’ kitchen! I just love this ruffled cake that Heidi crafted!

I believe this will serve as an available meeting space. Can’t wait to see the “after”.

The space looks empty currently as some remodeling is taking place. I can’t wait to see it complete!

I just love the exposed brick wall.

And here is the lovely and talented Heidi introducing Sugar & Ruffles to the other vendors who attended.

For more information about Sugar & Ruffles, contact Heidi Allison, owner of Sugar Bee Sweets or Laura Heymann, owner of Art by Ellie.

Sugar and Ruffles will be opening in June, so stay tuned for more information!

Happy Wednesday!

Winter Shootout: The People

If I said that the models for the Dallas Winter Shootout were good, that would be the understatement of the year. THEY. WERE AWESOME.

In fact, both of our couples weren’t models at all. Our bride and groom are Corbin & Dave of Soulbox Productions. They produce Super 8mm films, so if you’re looking for something different, be sure to check out Soulbox Productions. They totally rocked it out – and would you believe they’ve been married 12 years this year! I asked if they married when they were teenagers :)

Our engagement couple are newlyweds Jovan & Ebony, and Ebony is owner of Ebony Peoples Events & Design. Much like myself, she’s a transplant to Texas from Michigan and is starting up her event planning firm here in Dallas. She and her hubby Jovan have become fast friends with both Cent and I, and we’re thrilled to have more married friends!

And last but not least, Prianna was our bridal model. For real, this girl, she just made photographing her effortless. With her sweet disposition and readiness to pose as asked, Prianna was awesome. Many thanks to Chelsea of Southern Fried Paper for hooking us up with her!
