Last Call: Cans for Comments!

And suddenly we’ve hit mid-December. How the heck did that happen?

We’ve put up our very first Christmas tree as a couple. When we bought our house I asked Cent if we could get a tree. While I knew that we would be out of town for the holidays, I still wanted something Christmas-y for our house. So I ventured out to Target (make sure you go with a list or you will leave will all kinds of stuff you didn’t plan on!) to find a Christmas tree. I thought that we’d have to settle for a little Charlie Brown tree, which I was totally okay with, but thanks to waiting around, the Christmas trees were 50% off! So here it is in it’s 6ft. artificial glory! It’s in our dining room since we still don’t have a dining table. And we don’t have any ornaments just yet, but my mom is going to send us some, so our tree isn’t totally bare.

And now I’m starting to get a little nervous because I still haven’t done ANY shopping. I’m a little scared of hitting the stores this weekend, but I may brave it during the middle of the week while kids are in school. And of course the safest shopping option is online. For all those shopping on, December 17 is the last day to order with the Free Super Saver Shipping for it to arrive by Christmas!

Happy Tuesday!

Giving is Awesome.

You know how they say, “It’s better to give than to receive,” ? It’s so true, giving is awesome.

So, in part with my participation in Cans for Comments, I’m excited to announce my participation in this year’s Giving Is Awesome campaign. When I read about Giving Is Awesome, I knew that it was something I wanted to do. To have a chance to give back even more through what I love to do – capturing beautiful moments that will last a lifetime – why, yes, please!

Here’s the deal, I am giving away a portrait session package (a $1000 value) to one deserving person, couple or family.

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography. That’s FREE ninety-nine! Whether it’s canvas or albums, prints for Grandma, or a slideshow to watch over and over, it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives their own mini photo session and $100 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The nitty-gritty:

  • To enter, fill out the form below and tell me WHY this person, couple or family deserves this photo session.  The more you tell me, the better, as helping me understand what they have or are going through will increase their chances of winning. The person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
  • You cannot nominate yourself. It’s all about GIVING.
  • Those nominated must live within a 50 mile radius of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
  • The referrer (you) wins a mini portrait session, too!
  • Prize is non-transferable. The winner is the winner, yo.
  • The winner will be chosen by me and my panel of judges.
  • Deadline for entries is December 20.
  • The winner will be announced here on the blog on Christmas Eve! Get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

Much love,

It’s that time of year again!

The mornings are crisper. The air a little chillier. The seasonal specials are rockin’ Starbucks. The Christmas music is just about everywhere. The holidays are upon us!

It was so fun to give back to the community last year with this fun project, that I’m doing it again this year! Click here for last year’s post.

Comments light up my day, (well, any traffic to my blog lights up my day), and so to say thanks, I’ve been inspired by other photographers across the country and from our neighbors to the north!

Last year, Chris+Lynn started sharing the love with Cans for Comments! Thanks for the inspiration guys! My friend Amy Karp posted her Cans for Comments post and reminded me it was that time of year again!

For every blog comment we receive anywhere on this site, starting today through December 15th, we will donate 1 can to the North Texas Food Bank. Let’s stomp our hunger in North Texas! You don’t have to be from Texas to leave a comment. Just access to the Internet! Now get commenting blog readers and blog stalkers!
