Cancer sucks. I’ve had family members affected by cancer, my granddaddy and aunt both passed because of cancer, and more recently two friends were diagnosed – one with lyphoma and one with breast cancer. I used to think that cancer only affected those who were older, you know, at least in their 40’s, but it’s clear that cancer can affect anyone.
Last week we saw 50/50, and I thought it was a great movie that addressed cancer in a real way. I definitely recommend seeing it. I laughed, I teared up in parts, and it pulled at my heart strings. I feel for my friends who are battling it right now.
I’m looking forward to this Dallas event sponsored by the wedding industry benefiting The Bridge Breast Network on October 18 at 129 Leslie.
Pink Pride Brides – Bridal Fashion for a Cause is a bridal fashion show which supports the fight against breast cancer. Featuring Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses and accessories from Mockingbird Bridal Boutique, Pink Pride Brides is your chance to get a glimpse of the latest wedding fashions while enjoying an assortment of hors d’oeuvres and beer and wine. From sleek sophistication to delicate lace, the fashion show will have something for everyone! There will be a drawing for prizes from local wedding vendors, plus the first 100 brides to register will receive a goodie bag.
The event fee is $10 (when registered in advance), and all proceeds benefit The Bridge Breast Network, a local not-for-profit organization that links uninsured and under insured women in North Texas with diagnostic and treatment services for breast cancer.
I hope you’ll consider attending. If you cannot attend, but would still like to make a donation, you can do so through the link. To attend, check out the information for Pink Pride Brides here.
If you’re interested in getting involved in beating breast cancer, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is coming up in two weeks in Dallas, and you can support beating Lymphoma & Leukemia by checking out Team in Training in North Texas.
