Winter Shootout: The Details

03.10.2011

It’s almost Spring, so I thought I’d share some of the fabulous details from the Winter Shootout we hosted at the end of February. These shootouts are networking and portfolio building opportunities for photographers of all levels. It’s a great way to meet some new friends (since we photographers are often sitting in front of our computers!) and practice shooting.

The Dallas Winter Shootout was awesome! Elizabeth of After Yes and Heidi of Sugar Bee Sweets were my partners in crime, helping get all the details together. Heidi opened the doors of the Shoppes at Brownstone in Arlington for us to set up shop for the day, and it went off without a hitch. We had amazing models for the day including Corbin & Dave Baxter of Soulbox Productions, Ebony Peoples and her hubby Jovan of Ebony Peoples Events and Design, and the fabulous Prianna who we got hooked up with through Chelsea of Southern Fried Paper. See how a little collaboration can go a long way?! I’ll be posting the people photos next week!

But for now, the details! One of my favorite things to photograph (besides people) is the details. I love to capture all the little things that brides (and their planners!) put together for their wedding day. During the shootouts, we make a point to have some fun details so our participants can practice.

The fabulous Nicole Black of The Left Handed Calligrapher hooked us up with some of her lovely calligraphy.

Bows and Arrows designed all the floral and they were absolutely amazing! Alicia blew us away with all the lovely things they created.

Heidi of Sugar Bee Sweets let us use her Sweets Bar to create a pretty hot chocolate and cake balls scene. Oh and she makes some DELICIOUS cake balls! If you are in Arlington, be sure to check her out at the Shoppes at Brownstone!

Heidi’s inspiration for the cake was Natalie Portman’s dress from the Golden Globes. It was amazing!

Some of my other favorite shots to get during shootouts is the participants rocking it out. Here they are working with Corbin & Dave.

Well, that’s it for now, but stay tuned for more photos of our fabulous models next week!

Happy Thursday!

Moving to Fort Worth in May and I would LOVE to be a part of this. It will be great to connect with some local photographers and have a fabulous day of shooting.
