Road Trips and Jasmine Star

Before I even realized that I might want to shoot weddings, I went to this seminar in San Francisco and listened to her speak. She was bubbly and excited and honest. 110% honest. Like, I think I almost cried. That was in 2008. Since then, I’ve followed her blog, and I’ve seen her meteoric rise within the wedding photography industry and amazing success in a few short years. It’s totally inspiring. Her name is Jasmine Star. And I’m a total groupie.

Usually, I kind of dread long car trips. But I think you just have to be with the right posse. On Monday, I ventured down to College Station with my friend Vanessa of Contemporary Portraits. We chatted and laughed for three hours straight on the car trip down, and then what felt like “all of a sudden”, we found ourselves in College Station, the home of Texas A&M. (I feel like I should “whoop” for all my Aggie friends.) When Vanessa and I walked up to the hotel, she pointed and was like, “It’s her. It’s Jasmine.”

The thing I love about Jasmine and her husband JD is that they are totally down to earth, and remember people. We ran into them in the lobby and greeted us with hugs like old friends. They told us about their adventure around Texas trying to make it to College Station. Like, they almost didn’t make it.

Jasmine is always entertaining and her presentation style is engaging. And she talks with her hands.

Thanks to Brandy and Brandon for the next 3 photos!

Jasmine spoke on “Branding: You” and leveraging your online presence. She spiced it up a bit so that it was different from the last time I saw her speak, and I walked away with new ideas to implement into my business.

And there were prizes! Jasmine gave away three one-year subscriptions to Showit (I use them for my website!) and Brandon won one. She also gave away one to the girl with the cutest boots, and rightly so to the girl with the turquoise cutouts. I LOVE the color. I’m also the third one in line there. I HAVE COWBOY BOOTS!

At the end of the presentation, Vanessa (to my right in the photo) bum-rushed to get a photo with Jasmine. We were first! Vanessa’s got skillz. I think I might be trying to work some angles… I don’t think they worked.

This was the third time I’ve seen Jasmine speak and the fourth time seeing her. See, I told you I’m a groupie. I think it sounds way better than stalker! :) And I’ll see her again in Las Vegas for WPPI next month!

Happy Friday!
