Over the years, I’ve had various New Year’s traditions.
Growing up, I remember spending New Years with my family, eating and hanging out until the previously recorded Times Square Ball drop. I remember one year, my sister and I were told to jump all through the countdown until midnight, to ensure that we’d grow taller that year.
Once Cent and I started dating, we decided that we’d New Year’s together and that it would be our holiday (before we were doing Thanksgiving and Christmas together).
Cent taught me his family tradition of cleaning on New Year’s Eve and not cleaning on New Year’s Day, so as not to wash away any of the new year’s good luck. We also eat the traditional black-eyed peas, greens, and rice…well, every year I try to eat the greens.
This year, our New Year’s Eve was pretty low key, as we watched the countdown on TV with Dallas’ local coverage and then Dick Clark’s Rockin New Year’s Eve (at 12:30). We sipped on Sparkling Cider and toasted to a great 2011. Our kind of evening.
So Happy New Year!
If you’re a newly engaged couple, congratulations!
I’m a fan of DJ Earworm’s end-of-year mashups – it’s not just the music, it’s the videos, too. Although, I must admit that these songs are the reason why I mostly listen to NPR lately…the same 25 songs on constant replay on the radio!
