Tips for Brides: Get Organized with Evernote

So I’ve totally had Evernote on my iPhone for at least a year, but I didn’t start using it until I bought an iPad. And a few days ago, I downloaded the software onto my laptop.

Evernote is really awesome software that allows you to save all your notes, ideas, photos, and even voice messages. And it will sync to all of your devices. So say you’re out and about and have just your iPhone. You can bring up the app and take photos, write notes, basically jot down your ideas, and save it. When you fire up your app on your iPad or computer, it’s all there. It’s pretty brilliant.

I’ve been using it to brainstorm ideas for shoots. Gone are the days of having 46 different folders scattered about my laptop without rhyme or reason. Or keeping 17 tabs open in my web browser (Cent calls me the “Tabs Queen”). You can also install a plugin for your web browser, so with a click of the mouse, you can add a page or image to Evernote.

Why haven’t I been using this software sooner?!

Anyway, that got me thinking that it would have been a great tool to have while planning our wedding. (And it was probably around but I didn’t know about it yet.) I remember sitting in my cubicle checking out blogs for ideas, scouring The Knot for ideas (most wedding blogs were still in infancy), and have a bajillion bookmarks. Most never to be seen again. Or, I would right-click and save the photos and then insert them in a Word document to print out. If only I had Evernote back then.

And since the holidays is a popular time of year for engagements, I figured this would be a great to share with those who just getting started planning!

Oh yeah, and Evernote is FREE! For up to 40MB a month, then there’s a paid subscription if you use more than that.

Do you use Evernote? Do you like it?

Happy wedding planning & Happy Friday!

PS. I’m not getting anything for singing praises about Evernote, I just really like it, and thought you might, too!

I LOVE Evernote! I discovered it about a year and a half ago and it’s made organization so much easier, especially since I have random thoughts on the go (thank you, iPhone app). I have different notebooks for to-do lists, recipes, photography ideas, trips we’re going on, etc. It definitely helps a lot when I’m on the phone with my doctor’s office and I need to reference my medical ID #s, insurance card #, doctor’s contact info, and all that good stuff.

Another tool we use is Dropbox (there’s an app for it as well) to share documents and other files.

    Hello Catie,
This is Ron from Evernote. I saw your post and just wanted to say thanks for sharing how you are using it. We’re always excited to hear about all the different ways people are putting it to use. Wedding planning is a great one- glad it’s working out for you. One thing we recently announced was notebook stacks which might be a useful way to organize clients and projects. You can check it out here.
