Flash is one of those subjects that was totally elusive to me. The people who are good at it, rock their lights. And people like me who don’t have the first idea of what to do with an off-camera flash, run and hide from it. In other words, I just stayed away from the flash.
But now, thanks to the JVS Off Camera Flash workshop and some practice, flash is not such a scary thing. In fact, it’s fun. And while I’m still figuring out how I will balance the use of flash in my photos, I’m no longer petrified. I’m not a deer in the headlights when it comes to manipulating light. It’s still a work in progress. But I have to start somewhere, right?
JVS really shares everything. He shares 12 lighting diagrams, and basically says, “Figure out what you like and which one(s) will work for you”. He and Anne are open books and took the time to answer all our questions. And I loved that we got to practice what he taught, right there and then, until it felt comfortable. And the best part? All of the following photos are straight out of camera. No Photoshop whatsoever (except for applying my watermark).
My lovely partner for the day, Lynn of Lynn in Love Photo.
JVS getting a little sneaky!
These are my favorites of the day. They are SO different from how I usually shoot, but I LOVE them!
These are fun too. I can’t wait to see what Lynn got of me….Actually, I might be a little scared of what she got of me…
JVS in action rocking some Radio Poppers outside.
Thanks to JVS and Anne for an amazing day. And here’s me with them (Thanks Rafa for taking the photo!)….trying to look as unbleary-eyed as possible. For real, I was exhausted and suffering from seasonal allergies (because it’s officially Fall in Dallas…and my sinuses went nuts!)
