Mosquitoes and Mittens

Yesterday, I had a shoot outdoors. And by Texas standards it wasn’t too terrible out. About 90 degrees in the shade. With a slight wind.

However, there were mosquitoes. Which I wasn’t exactly expecting. BUT I should have, duh.

This morning, when I woke up, I counted and tallied the number of bites I was graced with.

36. 36!!

I mean, I get it, my blood is sweet, but seriously, this is ridiculous. I may as well be part mosquito for the number that feasted on me! (I’ll spare you photos of my bitten arms and legs.)

So I’m adding some items to my arsenal. I’m going to keep a bottle of OFF in my car. I’m going to get one of those OFF Clip-on fans to wear during outdoor shoots. And mittens.

Why mittens?

To keep from scratching! Agggh.

Maybe a set like this?

Oh and I’m going to try the grapefruit seed extract suggestion. A couple drops in your water and it’s supposed to make your blood tasted bitter to mosquitoes. It’s worth a try, right?

Have a great mosquito-free Tuesday!

i feel your pain.. i have a tendency to get bit multiple times in one area, so what looks like one giant bite is really 3-4 small ones really close together. and my bites get the fluid in them.. so icky! i hope you have better luck with the OFF than i do, cuz i still got ~25 bites despite wearing it, haha. the curse of sweet blood =(

I love my Off clip fan thingy. Also – the ‘clean feel’ off spray is good without being too smelly/messy
