I never thought that I would admit this.
But I have a new guilty television pleasure: Bravo TV reality shows.
It all started with The Millionaire Matchmaker. I had been talking to my sister and she said, “Have you ever watching Millionaire Matchmaker? It’s ridiculous and so funny!” And that may not be exactly what the producers of the show were going for, but it’s so true. Most of the millionaires on the show are so out. of. touch. with reality. Like that one lady, Shanna… But I enjoy how Patti Stanger keeps it real. Even when it’s the cold, harsh truth.
Speaking of those out of touch with reality…
Up until about a few weeks ago, I had never ever seen an episode of either of these shows. And then a boring Saturday rolled along, Cent was gone playing football, and everything else on TV wasn’t cutting it. I was flipping channels and caught the end of an episode of The Millionaire Matchmaker, and then an episode of the Real Housewives of New Jersey came on.
And even though I wasn’t all caught up on the drama going on, there’s just something about watching other people’s insanity that is so entertaining. Is that wrong? Well, considering that this is a guilty pleasure, I guess it’s alright. You know, in moderation, of course.
I never thought that I would be interested in these shows. I believed the idea was crazy and the name was a total misnomer. Housewives, seriously? Real? Come on!
But there’s something about this reality TV series that is so over the top ridiculous that I got sucked into watching. There’s something to be said for Bravo showing marathons during the day. It provides great background noise as well as some silly entertainment while I edit and go through emails. If it weren’t for the reruns, I probably would never watch this show.
However, after a few episodes I have to change to something less maddening, like…Gilmore Girls or Friends, duh.
