Red Velvet Review: Tart Pastry Boutique

03.16.2010

It’s time for another review on the local Dallas Red Velvet circuit.

Today’s Red Velvet Cupcake review is from Tart Pastry Studio at Lovers Lane and Inwood Road.

Let me start by saying that I almost didn’t find Tart. My GPS lied to me. That’s right, LIED. Do you ever have that problem?

Since I’m still new to the Dallas area, I rely on my GPS for most car trips, unless I absolutely know how to get there. Well, I typed in the correct address and it told me that I had arrived. But it was too soon. I tried to find Tart, but nothing screamed “Bakery!” Thankfully, my iPhone Google map showed me that I wasn’t that far off.

A new friend told me about Tart. She told me that I absolutely had to go, especially given my obsession with Red Velvet. The store was friendly and inviting, and I could have stayed in there all day long looking at all the different goodies.

The cupcake itself was delicious.

Moist.

A good cupcake to frosting ratio.

With cake sprinkles on top.

However, I was a little bummed that the cake wasn’t totally red. It was more faint red. But if it ends up in my belly that doesn’t really matter. Also, I was slightly disappointed that the frosting was generic buttercream instead of the traditional cream cheese frosting. However, since the cupcake had a good ratio between cupcake and frosting, the buttercream didn’t overpower the cupcake.

Overall, thumbs up.

Tart also gets extra super cool points for selling these babies. The elusive Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. That’s right, Whoopie Pies.

I recently saw these online on Bakerella. I really wanted to make some, but I didn’t want to eat them alone.

It’s kind of challenge to eat these without all the frosting coming out the sides. But it’s tasty and different. Since it’s more like a cookie, it has a different consistency and texture from cupcakes. And again, I think this Whoopie Pie would be kicked up a notch with Cream Cheese Frosting. Just Sayin’.

Whoopie Pie anyone?

They also make ALL KINDS of other pastries and sweet treats. Petit Fours, cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, etc. If I had easy access, I’d probably frequent them ALL. THE. TIME.

Definitely check Tart Pastry Boutique out.

Hi Natasha! I think I saw Mike for a split second in Vegas @ the Jesh de Rox platform class. I know, I make dieting hard on myself, too. :)
