There I said it Internet, I like cooking. At least now I do.
Amazing what six months and a little will power can do for change.
Now, before I got setting off red flags with my family members and friends, let me be the first to admit that I used to have no interest in cooking. I never really learned to cook growing up, something about it intimidated me, and at the first sign of messing up, I usually threw in the towel. Then when we got engaged and later married, I took it as a challenge from Cent to show him that I could cook. Initially, I think he took my disinterest in cooking as meaning I didn’t know how.
Well, six months later, I actually kind of look forward to it. I try to show myself up each time I cook by proving to myself that I won’t mess it up. Or at least just minimally. Over the last month we were on a meat-free diet and we had to get creative in cooking, having always cooked with meat as the main staple. I reached out to family, friends, and the Internet for best suggestions for vegetarian eats.
I think I also identified my previous beef (no pun intended) with cooking. I’ve learned through trial and error how important it is to read the recipe from beginning to end. A couple of times. And then while cooking to read each step carefully. (I tried making chili with dry beans when the recipe called for canned. BIG DIFFERENCE! Think, crunchy beans…)

Yesterday ended our no-meat diet. Since watching Food Inc, we will definitely be more conscious about what we buy and what we eat. I don’t think we’ll be switching to a completely vegetarian diet, however, I think we’ll be cutting down on the amount of meat we consume.
