I'm like you- I don't do well striking up a conversation with a total stranger (or even a semi-stranger), but I do fine if someone else approaches me and starts talking. So this move to a new small town has been difficult. In the 7 months we've been here, I've made a few acquaintances but no real friends, unless you count the guys my husband works with, but they don't really count because I'm talking about actual mommy/girlfriends (I'm a SAHM). But yes, this post has hit home. I need to work harder at being the one to start conversations, asking questions, etc. Problem being that I spaz out in actual social situations, totally forgetting any conversation starters or questions... but that's another story.
